FastNET Technology Resources Zone :: Network :: WiFi technologies

Why be tied down by your computer network? Over the last several years, WiFi networks have been cropping up everywhere.  Train stations, airports, hospitals, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and even coffee shops have all installed WiFi networks on their premises. WiFi allows your employees to go down the hall and work with a colleague on a project without worrying about how they will connect to the network.

Site Survey
A site survey is a physical survey of the customer's premises to identify the best possible locations to install access points to ensure 100% wireless coverage, along with maximum performance, within the desired area.

When considering the use of wireless equipment, it is extremely difficult to predict the propagation of radio waves and detect the presence of interfering signals without the use of specialized test equipment. Even if you are using omni-directional antennas, radio waves do not travel the same distance in all directions. Walls, doors, elevator shafts, people, and other obstacles offer varying degrees of attenuation, which cause the radio frequency (RF) radiation pattern to be irregular and unpredictable. As a result, one should have an RF site survey performed to understand fully the behavior of radio waves within a facility before installing any wireless devices.

Network Design
The goal of an RF site survey is to gather enough information and data to determine the number and placement of access points that will provide the coverage required. An RF site Survey will also detect the presence of radio interference coming from other sources that could degrade the performance of the wireless LAN.

The complexity of the network will vary depending on the size of the facility and the obsticles within. Without proper planning, users could end up with inadequate coverage and suffer from low performance in some areas.

Network Installation
FNS will install all the required equipment as well as integrate the WiFi system into your existing network. Once all the equipment is installed we test and certify its operation. At completion, the installation will be documented for future reference.

Some of the activities that will take place during the installation include butt are not limited to:

  • Mounting of access points
  • Mounting of antennas
  • Connection of antennas to access points
  • Connection of Backbone LAN to access points
  • Connection of power to access points
  • Configuration of access points and hardware
  • Final Site Testing and Verification

Training
FNS can train your IT staff so they can troubleshoot any problems that would arise allowing your network to stay up and running. While we don't anticipate any problems, we do prepare for them.
