Everybody wants a web site and there are many web designers. We, in our office, understand that the commonly accepted definition of a web designer is someone who has a little knowledge of Photo Shop and a little knowledge of Front Page (both computer programs), but this is not what we think. A web designer is a member of a multi-talented, multi-disciplined team. Sure there are graphic designers. The pages must look good, have good eye-appeal and encourage return visits, but they must load quickly and in the order intended; that is the job for a competent programmer and graphic designer. The information on the pages must be easily updateable and interesting; that is a job for the marketing department and for database designers and managers. Some sites need streaming (live or recorded) video presentations with or without sound; that is the work of a programmer to make sure it happens with the greatest economy of bandwidth. As the Internet is truly international web sites should be available in many languages and the transition from one language to another should be easy and user-friendly. Users (people browsing the net) should not need any but the minimum of computer skills to interact with a web site. In order to achieve this all of the complicated work of navigating the site must be properly designed and implemented and carried on in the background. A skilled and qualified team can only do this. And coming back to security: the site must be safe from unwanted intruders. A web site is a serious investment for a company to make. It must be the best that money can buy and it must be safe.
